Home is Where Love Grows Campaign
Youth empowerment is key to youth development. This can only occur when young people are involved in responsible, challenging actions to create positive social change. This is why at Youth Ottawa, we focus on programming that enables participation and engages youth in meaningful activities.
This holiday season we are supporting four students from St. Xavier Francis High School who took on our Active Citizenship Initiative challenge and created a book called Home is Where Love Grows. The book raises awareness for situations of domestic abuse in an innovative format, specifically for children. With your help, we can soon get these books into schools.
How you can help
Make a one time or monthly donation
With the schools and communities support, we would like to put one of these books in every elementary classroom and library in Ottawa. With a monthly donation or a one time donation of $100, we will print and distribute one book to an elementary school library in your name. The rest of the funds will support Youth Ottawa's Active Citizenship Initiative - a program that empowers youth to tackle social justice issues that are important to them.
Meet the Authors
The book was written by Ella Hoffmann, Raya Al-Zaida, Federica D'Amato and Noah Watson and Illustrated by Aurora D'Amato.
Message from the Authors:
"To our readers, thank you for taking the time to read and support our book. This is a school project turned social justice initiative that our group has been working on very hard for the past couple of months. We revised for months trying to get an important message across and hoping that we could make a small difference in family lives in our community. Our goal is to get it in as many kids' hands as possible, just so that they can really read it and understand what the message is."
